A Year With George Washington – February 20th

A Year With George Washington

On February 20, 1775, George Washington attended a meeting in Alexandria, Virginia, at which participants were chosen to represent Fairfax County at the upcoming Second Virginia Convention on March 20th in Richmond. Alexandria was roughly nine miles from Mount Vernon, and Washington would often make the round trip in a day. Washington’s decision to attend the Virginia Convention and his subsequent election as a delegate to represent Virginia at the second Continental Congress in Philadelphia would have far-reaching reverberations for himself and for every succeeding generation of Americans.
